"The percentage of large Chinese apples is quite big this year"

The overall apple production volume greatly declined in Chinese apple orchards in 2018 because weather conditions were extreme. The conditions in 2019 were vastly different. The overall production volume greatly increased in comparison with 2018, but the overall product quality was below standard. The huge supply volume of low-priced apples had a significant impact on the Chinese apple market. Even other fruits in the Chinese market were affected by this development.

Mr. David Wu of Shandong Haijiang International Trade Co., Ltd. recently shared his view on current conditions in the Chinese apple market. "The apple production volume increased by around 30% in comparison with last production season. However, the overall product quality of the apples is not as good as last season. The apples are quite big this season. However, farmers and traders are quite happy with the overall flavor. Our apples pass through a strict selection process to guarantee optimum quality for our clients."

"The apple varieties we produce include Fuji, Qinguan, Huaniu and Australian Green. The Fuji apple is the most popular apple in the domestic market and abroad. Of course, there are some regional variations. The export volume increased during the 2019-2020 production season. The production volume during the previous season was quite small and the price was therefore quite high. Furthermore, the domestic market absorbed a large volume of apples, which left fewer apples for the export market. Many overseas buyers shifted their attention to the USA, New Zealand, and South Africa."

When asked about the current price of apples, Mr. David Wu explained, "the export price currently shows a downward trend. The price was relatively high at the beginning of the season, but then began to fall as the production volume grew. The price remained stable for some time, but began to fall again in the period around New Year."

Haijiang International Trade will participate in the Berlin Fruit Logistica on February 5-7. The company team will display Fuji apples and pears. "The reason we participate in the Fruit Logistica is to secure our relationships with old clients, and also to open up new markets in the Middle East and Africa. We welcome all visitors to our company stand in hall 5.2 at booth C-05."
