Baja California is Mexico's third-biggest berry-producing state

The Mexican state of Baja California positioned itself as the country's third-biggest producer of berries, stated Juan Martinez, Agricultural Subdelegate and head of the Office of Agriculture and Rural Development. During 2018, Baja California, specifically the state's coastal zone, produced 134,576.5 tons of berries, including blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries, in more than 2,000 hectares.

According to Martinez, strawberry cultivation yielded the highest production. 116,451 tons were obtained, which were harvested in 1,920 hectares.

Most of this production (98,282 tons) was obtained in the open-air cultivation fields. Organic strawberry production stood at 4,000 tons and the harvest in shade mesh structures produced 14,169 tons of this berry.
