The first months of the Spanish kaki season were not easy. That is putting it mildly. However, the market turned around completely between Christmas and New Year. That is according to Pieter de Ruiter of 4Fruit Company. This company is the exclusive distributor of Anecoop kakis in the Netherlands. These kakis are marketed under the Bouquet label.
"In fact, sales are currently even extraordinary. We are getting sufficient supply from our supplier, Anecoop. We are getting fantastic prices at the moment. The popular sizes are currently selling for €9 for a 7,5kg box. Packs of 10 x 1kg are going for €11. You will, therefore, get no complaints from me at the moment," says Pieter.
"But you have to have stock. There are considerably fewer kakis available on the market. In Anecoop, we have the largest Spanish supplier. They have added about 23,000 tons of kakis to their supply this year. That is thanks to their takeover of the Valencian cooperative, Coagri. We are, therefore, expecting a sufficient supply of kakis for the coming month," says Pieter.
"It was an uphill battle during the first months of the season. Several cooperatives even stopped. The supply is, therefore, significantly less now. We hope to make up for this in January. You must have a good product, which we do. Then you can now get good prices. We are getting demands from everywhere," concludes Pieter.
