Chile plans to export more than 158,000 tons of fresh plums in the 2019-2020 season

According to the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile AG (ASOEX), the Chilean plum export season began in week 48, in which 32 tons were exported. Up until week 50 (up until December 15, 2019), Chile has exported a total of 466 tons of fresh plums to the world, i.e. 15.46% less than the 551 tons it exported by the same date of last season.

163 tons correspond to the Big Fusion variety (+51.55% in relation to 2018-2019); 81 tons to the Early Queen variety (-65.96%), and 56 tons to the Black Splendor variety (-53.45%). The harvests of this fruit are being carried out normally and the fruit is of good quality.

The Valparaiso region has focused on the Black Splendor and Royal Zee varieties and began harvesting the Aurora variety in week 51. The most important harvest variety in the Metropolitan Region is the Early Queen; in the O'Higgins Region, producers are harvesting the Big Fusion variety.

According to information delivered to SimFRUIT by Decofrut, Chile will export an estimated 158,077 tons of fresh plum this campaign, surpassing the 155,380 tons it exported in the previous year, which were 28.75% higher than in the 2017-2018 campaign. All this indicates that the production and export of this national fruit have been growing.

In 2018-2019, the main markets for Chilean fresh plums were: Latin America with 50.4% of the total, the US with 46.1%, and Canada with 3.5%. The country doesn't make any shipments to the Far East yet.
