Béatrice Chauffaille, Perlim:

“We are launching packaging that integrates the CSR dimension”

Since the beginning of October, it is possible to find the Golden Altitude from the Limousin in trays made of 100% cardboard mainly from the recycling industry. For Béatrice Chauffaille, head of marketing at Perlim, offering packaging that is part of a global performance approach is just the next logical step in the commitments already made by the company. “The goal is not to embrace a trend but to be in the continuation of the High Environmental Value. We want the commitments made through this label to go beyond the orchard crops and to have meaning all the way to the consumer.”

“We sell apples, not packaging”
To embody the values of the company, Perlim chooses to turn to a sober packaging. “The originality of our trays lies in their simplicity. We sell apples, not packaging. Consumers are starting to get tired of feeling like they are buying only packaging. With this raw appearance, we wanted to refocus the attention of the consumer on the essential: the apples themselves. Free of frills and with very little ink, it immediately conveys the notion of recycling, and our desire not to participate in deforestation. This is essential, because we wanted a simple packaging that would speak for itself.”

A strategy which seems to work, given the positive feedback received by the company, as well as the good reception from French retailers.

A local production
Within the framework of this social responsibility approach, Perlim chose to work with a local packer, Allard Emballages, located 17km away from the company. “Of course, we wanted to limit our environmental impact on transportation. But it is also important for us to take part in the economic growth of our region. Finally, as our main supplier of cardboard trays, we wanted Allard to join us in this transition, although the company did not work on this type of products initially,” explains Béatrice.

A desire to expand the range
The trays with 4 to 6 fruits are currently being sold in France. But Perlim does not want to stop there. “At the moment, the French market is the most attentive and sensitive to this kind of practices. But we also want to start exporting our range to other countries like England. Additionally, we would like to extend the concept to all our references, including the organic range, as a logical continuation in our approach. Consumers are returning to a notion of common sense, and we want to meet their demand in the most complete way possible,” explains Béatrice.

Perlim will present its cardboard tray at Fruit Logistica, Hall 21 - Booth E-03.
