Nigde, a city located in Central Turkey, exports cantaloupe melons to the UK, the Netherlands, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai).
Before the export, cantaloupe melons are processed in the facility that was founded with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Nigde Governor Yilmaz Simsek, Bor District Governor Mehmet Yavuz and Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Asim Bas visited the facility in Cukurkuyu neighborhood.
Governor Simsek and other officials also visited apple and nashi pear (a Japanese variety) gardens and participated in the harvest. Simsek said that Nigde's economy depends on agriculture and that there have been improvements in recent years.
Simsek emphasized that not only have new varieties been introduced but also more facilities have been founded. "Our entrepreneurs grow cantaloupes and seedless watermelons." said Simsek.
