Ludger Nollet, Nollet Fruit

“Belgian top fruit prices will climb a bit in two weeks”

The top fruit season is similar to that of other years. This is according to Belgian fruit trader, Ludger Nollet. "Supply and demand are fairly normal for this time of year. There is not a huge demand, but we also cannot call it bad. Prices are also comparable to those of last year."

"At the start of the season, prices were slightly higher. However, the larger volumes came onto the market. Prices then dropped a little. I expect the demand to increase again in two weeks. Prices will also rise then. For a good apple and pear demand, we need cooler weather."

“There is trade in Conference and Doyenne du Comice pears. I do, however, expect the demand for these products in increase soon. Conference prices are at a normal level. For size 65, you pay €0.60 and for size 70, €0,65," says Ludger.

“We do not yet have all the apple varieties available. We are currently trading with the old Jonagold crop. But, we are very pleased with the quality. We are expecting the new harvest shortly. We can, however, expect fewer large sizes this year."

People can visit Nollet Fruit on the night of Friday, 20 September to Saturday, 21 September. That is when the Brussels Early Market's Open Doors event will be held.
