Increased volumes arriving this month

"Exotics more popular as promotional items on fruit and vegetable shelves"

Limes, mangoes or melons; these fruits from far away are increasingly being listed as promotional articles in the food retail trade. They are usually tasty, rich in vitamins and extremely low in calories. And these are all elements that are currently very much in vogue with consumers. "In addition, these goods can often be offered without plastic or other packaging at the POS," says Leon van den Hombergh of Frankort & Koning, based at the Fresh Park Venlo.

If and when these articles are also offered at interesting and attractive prices, it is logical, according to Van den Hombergh, that there is an ever increasing demand. "September is traditionally the month in which we can offer all of these articles in appropriate volumes," he explains. Also, the need is there at this time of year: "The late summer will stimulate consumption even more!"
