It is almost time harvest grapes in Puglia and Fruitsland is ready. This year, it has been growing two seedless varieties patented by IFG®-International Fruit Genetics for the first time - red variety Sweet Celebration ® and white variety Sugar Crisp ®.
Sweet Celebration has an irresistible aroma with a sugar level of 19° brix. Sugar Crisp is instead a sweet and crunchy late variety that preserves well after harvesting.
The new productions confirm the strong cooperation between the Californian breeder and the Italian company. "Working with Fruitsland is stimulating because it is a young company that cares about innovation with good prospects on the international markets," explains Pietro Scafidi from IFG. And, while IFG's mission is to 'provide consumers with an exceptional taste experience', Fruitsland promises to 'only supply grapes of a guaranteed quality from Puglia'.
Flavor, high-quality and sustainability are the three elements the Fruitsland project is based on. The brand was established in 2012 and perfectly combines tradition and innovation. The 300 hectare vineyard expresses the international reputation of the Di Palma family and the use of innovative agronomic techniques (weather stations, drip line irrigation systems and probes to monitor soil humidity) in the name of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The two new varieties add to the already extensive catalog grown by Fruitsland (breeder names in brackets): white grapes Superior(Sun World), Timpson (SNFL), Melanie (SNFL), Great Green (SNFL), Sugar Crisp (IFG) abd Luisco(SNFL); red grapes Sweet Celebration (IFG), Timco (SNFL), Carlita (SNFL), Crimson and Allison (SNFL); and black grapes Melody (SNFL) and Black Moon (SNFL).
The Black Moon variety is partly cheating on the seedless tradition. "Although people tend to prefer seedless grapes, seeded varieties will continue to have their niche. This is why we need to be careful and invest in varieties with distinctive organoleptic qualities and grape size, keeping an eye on all trends," stresses Fruitsland owner Angelo Di Palma."
