Wim Bezemer, Four Seasons Fruit Supply:

"New Brazilian limes arrive in the Netherlands"

The first Brazilian limes arrived at Four Seasons Fruit Supply (FSFS) in the Netherlands last week. This importer is based in the Dutch town of Barendrecht. They work with Jagro Braziliƫ, where Dutchman, Marcel Jacobs, is in charge. FSFS receives weekly supplies under the Louise and Frutador brands.

"We started running our Louise brand two years ago. That is going to our full satisfaction. Clients know they have their hands on something great with this brand," says Wim Bezemer, FSFS' Managing Director. "The Louise and Frutador brands look the same. They have dark pink boxes which contrast very nicely with the green limes."

FSFS sells their limes to retailers and wholesalers throughout Europe. "The lime market has been bad for a long time. But, fortunately, it has now started an upward trend again. Everything that arrives sells well."

"Demand is coming mostly from the Southern European countries like Italy, Spain, and Turkey. Demand is good there in the summer. Warm weather always stimulates consumption. We see prices and demands increasing then too," says Wim.

According to the company's shipping agent, Marcel Jacobs, that was also sorely needed. "It was not profitable to send limes to Europe. Not with the recent weeks' low prices. Many growers in Brazil left their fruit hanging on the trees. We are careful about what we put on our boxes. This means volumes remain restricted to a few containers per week."

Shipments from Brazil usually continue until the beginning of September. FSFS also offers its clients Mexican limes. "The Brazilian limes fit in perfectly with our concept. We want to offer products directly from the source. We do that we a select number of products. We do not have to become the biggest with this. We do want to be the best in the products we carry," Wim Bezemer concludes.
