China: "Relaying information about growing to consumers effectively"

“The local red flesh dragon fruit season has now kicked off. Our first batch of red flesh dragon fruit has been sent to our warehouses in South China, where they will be distributed to Carrefour and Miss Fresh. As the season progresses, there will be more red flesh dragon fruit on the market in the coming month. In general, the demand and supply of red heart dragon fruit remains relatively stable.” Shared Song Gao, CEO of Fengcheng Shangpin.

“Our dragon fruit production centers are located in Hainan, Guangxi, and Vietnam, growing both red flesh dragon fruit (in Hainan and Guangxi) and white flesh dragon fruit (in Vietnam). Due to multiple factors, the yield and quality of white flesh dragon fruit from Vietnam are not stable, but it has not affected us. This is mainly due to the fact that, first of all, compared with the somewhat bland flavor of white flesh dragon fruit, the red flesh dragon fruit tastes sweeter, and its color is more festive. These characteristics better cater to the taste buds and aesthetic needs of Chinese consumers. Moreover, the season of red flesh dragon fruit is currently in full swing, which helps to fill in the market gap left by the white flesh dragon fruit.”

“According to our experience, one of the advantages of dragon fruit is its longer supply window compared with other produce. Different from most fresh fruit whose supply window only lasts 2 to 3 months (cold storage period not counted), the dragon fruit can be harvested every 45 days and supplied throughout the year continuously when working with different production zones, better meeting the increasingly strong purchasing demand of consumers. We offer a variety of packaging options with our own brand 'Fengcheng Shangpin’, to cater to the individualized needs of different sales channels, such as large box packaging of 18 kg, or small boutique packaging with 2-3 dragon fruit."

“In fact, 'Fengcheng Shangpin' is our produce distribution brand launched in 2016. The brand is positioned as a B2B brand, mainly for offline supermarkets and large offline e-commerce platforms. Before that, we successfully launched in 2014 Dafengshou Agricultural Resources Mall (www.dfs168.com), an agricultural resources e-commerce platform. After that, we launched Learning to Farm Daily, a platform that offers agricultural technology-related training videos, as well as Shinong, an agricultural platform for the diagnosis of pests and diseases. With these three platforms and the ’Fengcheng Shangpin' brand, the entire process from product cultivation to the consumers’ table is perfectly linked."

“In recent years, we have been working to convert data in produce cultivation into effective information, and then pass it to consumers, allowing them to see the information that they are willing to understand and accept. I believe this will help to stimulate consumers to pay a premium price for quality products."
