Market Report April 2019, WFO South Tyrol:

'Wholesale prices of common apple varieties significantly below the previous year's level'

The South Tyrolean wholesale prices for April 2019 are now available. A look at the most recent apple prices for the month of May shows that the prices for the 2018 crop for most available varieties are well below the level of the previous year at the same time. If one takes the very low harvest 2017 and the following marketing season as an exception and compares the figures with the available figures from the previous year, then the development is similar except for two exceptions: For the variety Cripps Pink the price is currently higher than 2017, at the variety Kanzi exactly the same height. For all other varieties, the price level in May was below that of May 2017.

In May 2019, WIFO raised prices for all major South Tyrolean apple varieties except Gala - Braeburn, Fuji, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Cripps Pink, Kanzi and Red Delicious. The published prices are always gross prices, which should give a tendency of the current situation on the apple market. Of the prices published here, the costs of storage, transport, marketing, etc., still have to be deducted in order to give an approximate indication of the expected prices.
