"The export price of Chinese onions soared this year because many European countries, and the Netherlands in particular, suffered from extreme weather conditions that reduced their onion production volume. European buyers imported Chinese onions in large volumes and the export price went up. These conditions are still dominant in the onion market today." "The export price of Chinese onions is still rising, but the growth is slowing down. This is mainly because the new onion harvest season has begun in several European countries. The overseas demand for Chinese onions therefore diminished. As far as I can tell, onion production areas in Europe did not suffer from extreme weather conditions this year. When European onions enter the market in large volumes, the export price of Chinese onions will have less room to grow."

"The onions our company exports come from production areas in Jiangsu and Shandong. The main product variety is the yellow onion. Based on our observation in these two production areas, we can tell that the surface area devoted to onion plantation decreased by around 40% in comparison with last year. However, the production volume per hectare increased by 10%. We currently export our onions through Qingdao to Israel, Italy, japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia."
