"Self-built logistics park can improve import and export goods service”

The Chinese government is encouraging the import and export business of China. A few things that indicate this is the One Belt One Road Initiative and the large China International Import and Export Expo that was organized last year. Though companies themselves also start to invest to improve the import and export conditions in China. Such as Asia Global, an international logistics company with its headquarters in Shenzhen, China. They started in 2002 and since then opened eight other branch offices in China and abroad. An important point in the import and export is the lack of a good cold chain. Asia Global is trying to improve this part of import and began building its own logistics park in 2015. As Jeff Gu, planning manager of Asia Global, explains: “In China a lot of companies lack of a good cooling storage or proper logistics within China. The cold chain in China thus needed some improvement and we tried to contribute to this by building our own logistics park here in Shenzhen. We are close to the border of Hong Kong, where a lot of imported fruits reach China. Furthermore, we are close to Guangzhou which is the biggest fruit wholesale market in China. So when we started to build our park in 2015, it was a logical choice for us to build it in Shenzhen.”

The logistics park consists of several cold storages and some distribution centers. “Nowadays Chinese consumers are more aware of product quality and therefore also require higher quality and do not settle for low quality products anymore. Therefore suppliers also focus more on guaranteeing their product quality and invest more into maintaining a stable temperature and humidity during the transport of their freight. The main reason to build the logistics park for us, is to help our clients to keep the product quality high and make the whole import and export proceed more smoothly. With good equipment and technology, we are able to maintain a stable temperature and humidity inside our storage rooms. In this way we can protect the products freshness and taste. Furthermore, to have even more service for our clients, we also built our own platform, where they can track the whole transportation. If anything goes wrong with the temperature or humidity during the transport, they get an alarm and we as well. So that we immediately can solve the problem. This platform they can access through their phone or through the computer, any time of the day.”

Asia Global is focused on B2B business, and transports fruits to wholesale markets, supermarket chains and other businesses. They import fruit from all over the world into China, and also export, but import makes out the biggest part of their business, about 60%. “This year we noticed the impact of the trade war between the US and China. Where normally big volumes of American goods entered China, now much smaller volumes are arriving. This all has to do with the high taxes imposed on imported goods. Though China’s import is not decreasing but increasing. Because of China’s large population, there is a lot of demand for fresh products. And since foreign products are known for their good quality and consumers pay more intention to quality, the import increases. Furthermore, during the winter there are not a lot of fruits available in China and therefore that the import of fruits also increases during this time.”

“On the other hand, export of Chinese products is increasing as well. Fresh fruits get more standardized and there are some new strong brands growing in China, which encourages the export of these products. We hope to provide our services to more companies in the future.”
