Chile and the USA continue to rank first and second

Peru is the world's third biggest exporter of fresh grapes

Peruvian exports of fresh grapes experienced an important growth in 2018, positioning the country as the world's third biggest exporter of this fruit, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism stated.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade, Sayuri Bayona, said that, last year, Peruvian exports of fresh grapes amounted to US $ 819 million (+26%), a figure that allowed it rank better than Italy and China.

"In 2018, shipments of fresh grapes grew, mainly due to the greater volume exported (+ 27%), as exports went from 270 thousand tons in 2017 to 343 thousand tons last year. The effort of our exporters, coupled with the intensive campaign to promote our fruit basket in the world, have allowed us to rank in an unprecedented position," she said.

"If this positive trend continues, Peru could reach and surpass these levels in the coming years," she added. Ica and Piura are the main grape export regions.

Chile and the United States continue to be the first and second biggest exporters of fresh grapes in the world, with shipments of US $ 1,074 million and US $ 926 million, respectively.

Meanwhile, Italy and China ranked fourth and fifth place with shipments of US $ 779 million and US $ 690 million, respectively.

The main destinations for the fresh Peruvian grape are the United States, the European Union, and China.

The significant growth of fresh grape exports to the European Union (+84%) was driven by the increase in shipments to Germany (+461%) and Italy (+188%).
