"Increased export of Chinese onions won't lead to expansion of plantations"

"The export volume of onions remained stable during Chinese Spring Festival [February 5th, 2019]. There was no sudden increase of demand. Market supply is dominated by late-season onions. The supply of peeled onions is already finished, and other onions are approaching the end of their season as well." This is according to Wang Junjie of Henan Jun's Safe Foodstuffs Co., Ltd.

Onions

"We mainly export Chinese onions to European markets. The supply of peeled onions is reaching its end. We mainly deliver frozen onion slices and rings. The export price of onions is currently higher than it was in November and December."

Onions

"Chinese onions became a hot product in 2018. Traders in the international market fought to get their hands on onions. The export volume grew and the price continued to rise. However, I do not think this will cause many farmers to increase the overall surface area devoted to onion plantation in China. The increased demand from international markets is due to extreme weather conditions. The onion production volume in the Netherlands decreased as a result of weather conditions, and the Netherlands is one of the major suppliers of onions to other European countries."
