"We want to shorten the chain and supply to the retailers directly"

DakaFresh BV is a new fruit and vegetables supplier based in Maasdijk, The Netherlands.

The company will focus on supplying two key products, such as citrus and grapes, for 12 months of the year, but also sweet potatoes, table potatoes, onions, spring onions, strawberries and other products will be offered by the company. The company has also signed a deal with Dutch growers of tomatoes, peppers and aubergines to supply their clients for the upcoming season.

Max Kryeziu explains that the sourcing countries are different depending on season. “We are a new company but have long experience in the fresh produce sector, we hope to develop the needs of our clients in a different way, we are looking at achieving a 12-month supply of our key products within year 2019.

“We will focus on supplying retailers in the UK and Europe, but will also supply wholesale and the service industry as well. We have strong growers supporting us and are very service minded, we want to shorten the chain and supply to the retailers directly with the products they require, the company will focus to develop products together with clients and their needs instead of serving a final product, we would like to be more known as a service provider and problem solver to our clients, rather than just a regular supplier”.

One of the most important aspects of our policy is sustainability, the suppliers are not just supplying the products, they also need to add value to society through their production.

“Sustainability and Social Responsibility is very important for us, that’s why we also have applied for membership in Amfori and BSCI platform," explains Max.

Max says he is in negotiations with clients in the UK, but Brexit is causing problems as it is impossible to agree any contracts when no one is sure what will happen in a month when the Brexit deadline comes.

“We have already discussed together with suppliers and clients of how we can continue in the UK market after Brexit, but for now the insecurity is big”.

Development
“We are also doing some asparagus trials in Italy and Albania and are hoping to add this product for next season, with trial sales to only German market this year. We see Albania as the new Italy, and are working hard to develop a more sustainable and safe production there”
