Nuchi Sansekan Health Clinic gets inaugurated amongst stakeholders

The Nuchi Sansekan Heath Clinic was officially inaugurated on January 12, 2019 in Triunfo de Santa Rosa, Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico; amidst a bevy of Covilli Brand Organics stakeholders; including farmworkers, retailers, wholesalers, partnership producers, Fair Trade USA and press.

The clinic was fully funded by Fair Trade Premium Dollars collected from the sale of Covilli Brand Organics Fair Trade Certified™ products, the company said. The project and the clinic are managed by its Fair Trade Association of farmworkers (Nuchi Sansekan).

The clinic offers primary and preventative healthcare and general dentistry services. The clinics mission is to deliver culturally competent, comprehensive, high-quality healthcare; with state-of-the-art equipment and compassionate practitioners to the 700+ farmworkers, their families and surrounding rural communities.

The clinic has been open since November of 2018, and serves between 7,000 – 10,000 people.

Covilli President Alex Madrigal initiated the weekend-long ceremony over dinner with a presentation on the evolution of Covilli and the history of the company’s venture into fair-trade. Iris Montaño Madrigal, Director of Marketing, gave the audience a lesson on fair-trade and what it means for Covilli, and how Fair Trade Certified™ Premium Dollars end up in community development projects, while also sharing the basics of what Fair Trade certification means under Fair Trade USA.

Nuchi Sansekan’s Fair Trade Committee substantiated the tremendous amount of work that the entire group has had to undertake in the first three years since Fair Trade certification in 2015 and collecting almost $1 million dollars.

An educational tour of the farm and its regenerative practices was given, as was a complete tour of the operating clinic. Several Q & A sessions took place between the gathered audience and the farmworkers, the Fair Trade Committee, the health clinic staff and Covilli management.

The weekend concluded with a relaxed dinner that had all stakeholders intermingling and sharing their thoughts and experiences with fair-trade. All reiterated one pivotal sentiment: that every purchase matters and positive impact happens when the entire system works together.
