New potato and onion processing technology

Bulltec from Cesena has introduced a new simple reliable machine unaffected by the dirt of onions and potatoes - a grader that can delicately sort potatoes and onions no matter their shape as produce is moved using conveyor belts.

"There is little need for maintenance as the belts can be cleaned easily. We are aware of how important this is for products such as onions and potatoes which grow underground. The machine was tested by Cipolle Freddi for a few months. The grader, installed after the washing area, divided the medium-small round produce from the oval one. Despite the fact that the produce is already washed, the machine does get dirty and any other precision mechanics would have incurred in quite a few problems," explains owner and designer Ruggero Ricci.

"In spring, we will install the grader at Frontino Ortofrutticoli, part of Consorzio della Cipolla Bianca di Margherita Igp. It is a 6-channel and 7-outlet grader. Produce quality will be guaranteed as onions are delicately transported by the conveyor belts."

The Bulltec grader was created to meet a significant market demand: a specific sorter for onions and potatoes with a high grading capability to sort the produce evenly. A buildable, simple, dust and work condition-resistant machine that needs little maintenance and therefore very reliable.

"The machine can be designed according to client needs. Its size, hourly production and outlet number can be adjusted. A sticker labeling section can also be added." In Spain, onions have a sticker to vouch for their quality.

The machine can also be tested as Bulltec has one available that potential clients can install and assess. "Considering the accessible costs of this electronic grader, Bulltec's intention is to put any onion or potato trader in the condition to divide its production evenly using a simple reliable technology."
