China: High demand for Chilean blueberries before the Spring Festival

In the weeks leading up to the Chinese New Year, the Chinese fruit market is very busy and there are many imported fruits from different countries. “We are currently importing blueberries from Chile. Previously, from August 11 to September, we imported Peruvian blueberries, which were of good quality and therefore had good prices. After that, we opened the Chilean blueberry season. The first batch of products arrived in China on December 16," said a blueberry professional.

”This year, there were hail storms in Chile, which caused some damage to some blueberry producing areas, but not all producing areas. Because of the hail, some blueberries have been affected, but the overall quality is still very good. The production is basically the same as last year. Due to the large market demand, the price is also rising."

Chile is now a very popular for cherries, although their blueberries are also entering the market. “The demand for Chilean blueberries is now very high. We are trying to supply enough blueberries. We have noticed the highest demand is before the Spring Festival, during which our imports will reach their peak. We expect there will be fluctuations in demand after the Spring Festival. In April this year, local blueberries from China will be listed, then the demand for blueberries will increase again."
