China: Price of pears goes up

The price of pears showed an upward trend this week. The main reasons for this development are as follows: first, this is the New Year's period and pears benefit from the overall price increase in the market around this time of year. Second, the product quality of pears currently in the market is excellent. Furthermore, these pears are destined for storage. As the price in production areas increases, so does the price in the market.

The price of pears is also increasing in comparison with last year. The reasons for this development are as follows: pear production areas in Xinjiang suffered from frost, snow, and heavy rainfall. This limited the overall production volume. Since pears are popular and there is always market demand, the limited production volume meant that supply was insufficient and therefore the price went up. It is estimated that the price will increase even further during the crazy peak period that precedes Chinese Spring Festival.
