The Zetapack balance a few months after the launch of its machine

Automated processing for delicate fruits

It has been a very positive year for Zetapack, the new company specialised in the manufacturing of weighing machines for delicate fruits. The marketing manager Nicola Antonaccio explains, “In a few months, we sold seven working lines. This result was beyond our expectation. We knew we had a good product, but we thought that it was aimed at only few very careful operators. In fact, there are many companies that want to offer fruits with a higher degree of ripeness”.

The first Zetapack clients were Trybeca coop Albifrutta, Giurset farming company, Fogliati, Leonesi, Agrintesa and Pison. Next week, a machine will be delivered to the Trifoglio company.

The manager continues, “Thanks to our innovation, we are getting closer to the balance between logistics and customer necessities”.

For instance, the Abate pears are picked up and put on a sort of soft pillow which prevent any damage. Through the Zetapack machine, it is possible to immediately process the pears as they are taken out the fridge cells.

The calibrator is circular. A fruit would keep circulating until an operator pick it up. The loading is manual, as for other machines. In this way, delicate fruits such as persimmons, pears, ripe peaches, big apricots or nashis do not spoil.

The discharge is done by hand. The operator has to pick up the fruit and put it in the next location. A light would signal to the operator if the incoming fruit is of the required size. Through the software, it is possible to split the fruit by weight, size and colour.

“We want the customer to get as close as possible to good fruit which is pleasant from an organoleptic standpoint. In order to achieve this, it is crucial to harvest fruits at the latest stage as possible”.

Antonacci concludes, “Thanks to our machine, fruits can be harvested in a more advanced stage of ripeness, as the automated system selects them while the operator carries out the loading and unloading operations."
