"Christmas is probably the best time of the year for the consumption of exotic fruits. In fact, we are increasing our exports by sea to meet the expected increase in demand. We have an ongoing gulupa season. We can produce gulupa all year round because Colombia has different temperature areas," said Fabio Usai, the CEO of the Colombian company Cooltropy SAS.
This company's portfolio includes granadilla, passion fruit, mangosteen, baby bananas, cape gooseberries, tree tomatoes, yellow pitahaya, and mango. "However, gulupa exports are very important for the company, as it accounts for the highest sales volume. The main export destinations are the Netherlands, Germany, France, and Italy. The rest of our fruit is exported by air and the quantities are much smaller."
Cooltropy works with several associate producers that have Global GAP and Grasp certifications. Currently, the company is in the process of obtaining the SMETA certification. "Together with various producers, we have about 14 hectares of land. Our product portfolio also includes granadilla and passion fruit. The fruit with these certifications can enter Europe, where we can sell it to chain stores, so long as it complies with the necessary phytosanitary and quality standards."
