Mexico: Mango exports to the US decline due to the rains

The mango harvest in the northern part of the state has ended and its results were slightly lower than expected, as mango exports to the different destinations in the United States decreased by nearly 18.7 percent over 2017

Daniel Ibarra Lugo, the president of the Mango Producers and Exporters Association of the Fruit Fly Free Zone, said that they had exported nearly 13 million tons of mango to US this year.

This figure, he said, is nearly 3 million tons lower than the 16 million tons exported during 2017.

This year, this important productive sector was affected by heavy rains on September 13 and 16 and producers were unable to harvest many orchards because of weather issues.

In addition, the fruit's quality was low due to the negative impact of the intermittent rains there were this season.

Some orchards were lost because producers couldn't harvest them as a result of the high humidity there was, he said.
