"This autumn we have the largest yield for about 20 years. The last time there were similar numbers of apples was in 1992 and 2000," says Schafhausener Apfelerzeuger Manfred Nuber. The approximately 20 commercial fruit growers in the district of course have difficulties with their sales due to the glut of apples: "By December or January at the latest, the fruits from the garden will soften somewhat. The customer expects, of course, to see crisp fruit on his table at Christmas and in the spring as well. Commercial fruit growers will therefore store their fruit in cold stores, to sell the produce in the spring."
