China plays a promoting role

Chile embraces fruit export opportunities and challenges

Chilean cherries, blueberries, avocados and other fruits have gradually charmed the world market, and have been loved by a large number of consumers. The situation of fresh grapes and apples is more complicated. However, the Chilean fruit industry said that the prospects for Chilean fruit development in China are bright.

Chilean Agriculture Minister Antonio Walker is very satisfied with the performance of Chilean fruit in the last quarter and pointed out: "The good performance is closely related to the booming Chinese economy." Bown stressed the importance of the Chinese market for Chilean fruit exports. For example, China opened its doors to Chilean nectarines in October 2016. The fruit exported to China in the last quarter amounted to 16,000 tons and is expected to continue to grow. Meanwhile, the export of avocados to China has also achieved satisfying results.

Bown also saw difficulties in exporting Chilean apples and fresh pears. He said: "The United States needs to find an apple export market other than China, and these markets are also the export destinations of Chilean apples." However, if Chilean pears successfully enter the Chinese market, it will strengthen the diversification of our export destinations, and the prospects are positive.
