The National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa), attached to the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Minagri), established the phytosanitary requirements for the importation of fresh pears from Japan.
In May of this year, the health authority identified and evaluated the potential pest risks that imports of fresh fruits could pose. The goal of this measure is to guarantee an adequate level of protection to the country, minimizing the risks of quarantine pests.
According to the details, published in the newspaper El Peruano, the shipment of Japanese pears must have a phytosanitary import permit issued by Senasa. It must also have an official phytosanitary certificate from Japan that certifies that the shipment is free of nine pests.
"If the pears are transported by air, the pallets will be covered with meshes that have a diameter smaller than 1.6 x 1.6 mm or any other material that mitigates the entry of pests after the export inspection. Each box or pallet must be sealed, and the number of seals must be indicated on the phytosanitary certificate ", according to the standard.
