The cranberry season started on September 19th with the first berries for the fresh market being harvested. Next week many more producers will start to harvest berries that will end up in juices, sauces, sweetened dried cranberries and more.
“It’s great to see another harvest is underway, knowing our producers have put in lots of hard work to grow another excellent crop.” Says Jack Brown, Chairman of the BC Cranberry Marketing Commission.
The timing of the cranberry harvest gives consumers an opportunity to purchase fresh BC cranberries at local supermarkets for Thanksgiving. Suppliers explained that to find and identify locally grown BC cranberries, consumers should look for the green emblem on bags of Ocean Spray cranberries.
The annual Cranberry Festival in Fort Langley, celebrating its 22nd year, will happen Saturday, October 6 starting at 10am. Visitors will have the chance to purchase fresh cranberries and organizers say there will also be plenty of family activities.
