New season of organic passionfruit from the Canary Islands begins

The new season of organic passionfruit, better known by its Spanish name, Maracuja, has just started. The yellow maracuja, Passiflora edulis forma flavicarpa and the red maracuja, Passiflora edulis forma edulis.

The season starts in August and ends in February. Good news is that an extra grower is shipping its produce through Mara Fruits, says Juan Antonio Munoz. This year we will have double the volume available and also a lot more red maracuja. The sweeter of the two, and normally flown in from Africa and South Amercia.

We are happy to be able to offer such a highly sought after tropical fruit from the Canaries, which is shipped by boat and is tree ripened. Our fruit can stay on the tree longer, adding to its maturity and taste. Once you have tasted the Canarian fruit, you will want more, says Juan confidently.

The fruit comes in 1.75kg boxes, 240 boxes per pallet and sizes vary from size 8 – 24. Most volumes are in size 10-12-14. Loading is through Perpignan where our produce arrives. An ideal location for us, because most customers ship their produce from Spain to the rest of Europe through the main hub in the south of France.

Besides maracuja, Mara Fruits also markets papaya, aloe vera, guanabana and in the future also Lychees, Longan, Physalis and Mamey.
