Potato market Lower Austria - week 35/2018

Below average harvest expected

The Austrian table potato market continues to be the same as in previous weeks: precipitation in the last week improved the harvest conditions regionally, but the scarce availability of domestic potatoes does not change that much. The yield per hectare of the main varieties this year is significantly lower than that of last year.

Furthermore, the problems with wireworm infestation are increasing. The domestic market is still calm, but should pick up when the schools start again in eastern Austria. Producer prices are stable, on last week's levels.

At the beginning of the week, in Lower Austria the price for medium goods was usually around 18 euros/100 kg. For plus sizes it was between 15 and 18 euros. In Styria and Upper Austria the prices are 20 or 22 Euro/100 kg.
