Company estimates a growth of 500 tonnes compared to last year

Finkum plans to increase export of Turkish black figs by 33% this season

The Turkish fig season is going well for Finkum Tarim, as the season brought spring rains that set the Turkish figs up for better quality and bigger sizes. The harvest started earlier than last season, as it was only the first week of August when the fig trees started giving up their produce. The season will end around the end of September.

Volume-wise the season brings good news: "In 2017 Finkum exported around 1500 tonnes of figs, where this season the estimate falls around 2000 tonnes. This shows a 33% increase compared to last year. Finkum Tarim also started using the latest technology sorting machine, which helps to reach that goal of 2000 tonnes." said Hakan Arikan, CEO of Finkum Tarim.

"The figs go to most countries in Europe by truck, including but not limited to the UK, Germany, France and Russia. Airfreight allows us to export the figs to China, Canada, South Africa, India, Singapore and Malaysia."

"Once the season ends, Finkum's Research & Development group will search for new regions in the world to plant the Turkish black figs," Arikan continues: "We also started Finkum Europe, located in The Netherlands, ready to expand even more in Europe!"
