Denis Joud, Fruits Union:

"France: "The amount of figs may differ per day"

The french fig is available from now until mid-November, depending on availability. Denis Joud of Fruits Union: "The fig is a sensitive fruit. It all depends on the outside temperature. If it's cold at night, ripening stops. The amounts may differ per day."

After Turkey and Spain, the harvest of French figs has just begun. Denis: "The season has started. Currently we only offer the Pastillière variety. In less than three weeks we will begin the Bourjassotte, and we will have a slightly higher amount."

Demand in France is very large. "If we had the demanded quantity, we would sell a lot more. I only have 150 tons of conventional figs, and 80 tons of organic figs. With the availability we have, we can only supply the French market, but that could change in the future."

Fruit Unions fruit orchards are still young. "They are only three years old, and are starting to go into production. In three or four years, we will have higher amounts and we would like to get into export a little more."
