In the 2017/18 campaign, the supply of Ukrainian onions to the foreign market has been significantly reduced. According to the analysts of "Fruit-Inform", citing official statistics, the volume exported has fallen by 40% compared to the previous season.
During the period at hand, Ukrainian companies have marketed 10.84 thousand tonnes of onions on the foreign market. For comparison, a season earlier, Ukraine managed to export 18.27 thousand tonnes. In monetary terms, the volume of exports has fallen less sharply, by only 19%. The main reason for the reduction in the supply is the decline in the demand of companies from Belarus. While this country was the leader in the consumption of Ukrainian onions in the 2016/17 campaign, with a total volume supplied amounting to more than 11 thousand tonnes, in the 2017/18 campaign this figure has fallen to 0.2 thousand tonnes.
At the same time, Ukraine managed to significantly increase its presence in the Turkish market. While in the previous season there were no deliveries to the Turkish market at all, the volume shipped to this country in the 2017/18 campaign amounted to 1.3 thousand tonnes, which turned Turkey into one of the Top 3 importers. The ranking was topped by Great Britain and Iraq, which received 3.4 and 2.2 thousand tonnes, respectively.
