Early potatoes: Lush supply and low demand lead to drop in prices

The availability of home-grown potatoes has been continually expanding. In the meantime there was a lush supply, the extent of which proved too abundant. The start of the holiday season was indeed noticeable, as demand was low in many places. Sales therefore were no longer as smooth as they should have been. The dealers were thus forced to lower their prices, which was quite noticeable sometimes.

Due to the widespread drought, it was only possible on the irrigated areas to clear large tubers in sufficient quantities. For crops without irrigation, the proportion of smaller calibres was much higher. Italian imports gradually decreased. Despite the limited availability, concessions had to be made in this sector as a result of reduced demand. The relevance of stock potatoes from the old yields shrank faster and faster. Meanwhile, their ratings changed only marginally. From the Netherlands, the Victoria again arrived in Frankfurt.
