Giant mushroom found on Crete

A massive mushroom weighting 3.9 kg (8.6 pounds) has been discovered near a mountain top on the Greek island of Crete. Experts say that it is the first time the calvatia gigantea, commonly known as the giant puffball, has been found on the island.

According to greece.greekreporter.com, it was discovered on Mount Kedros, near Rethymno, at a height of 1,700 meters. The mushroom has a diameter of 31 cm and is 21 cm tall.

Giant puffballs are greenish brown, whereas the interior of immature puffballs is white. The large white mushrooms are edible when young.
