IGS expands network in Rotterdam

The IGS Logistics Group from Hamburg, Germany, is offering a considerable number of additional destinations to and from Rotterdam, the Netherlands. This concerns rail as well as shipping connections. "The Port of Rotterdam is becoming increasingly interesting for, especially, our German clients", says Harald Rotter, Director of IGS's Intermodal Container Logistics.

IGS has always held a particularly strong intermodular transportation position. They operate from the ports of Hamburg and Bremerhaven to and from the German hinterland. They have now actively included 45 rail and 30 barge connection per week with the Port of Rotterdam. This reflects the increasing interest in Europe's largest port as a logistics hub. "Business people like have choices", explains Rotter. "Rotterdam offers a number of benefits when it comes to costs and time. We would like our clients to benefit from this. This is why we have included, and are now actively offering, these connections in our network."

From Leipzig to Munich
The vast majority of this company's lines concerns reselling partner lines. These partners include EGS, Neska, Haeger&Schmidt, Optimodal, HUPAC, Frankenbach, and TX Logistics. In this way, goods can be delivered quickly. For example, there are rail shuttles five times per week to, among other places, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Cologne, and Leipzig. These go to Mainz four times a week and to Kehl, Munich, and Neurenberg three times a week. Neuss is visited on a daily basis. Their inland navigation route has also expanded. The company already has a biweekly connection to and from Aschaffenburg. Now, a trip will be made to Kehl and Neuss three times a week and five times a week to Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Cologne and Krefeld.



Last mile
With what they now offer at Rotterdam, Rotter expects to draw more regional clientele in Southern Germany. "We have an extensive German network. We have our own trucks, terminals, and empty depots in Neurenberg, Munich, Regensburg, Aschaffenburg, and Schweinfurt. With this, we can offer an extremely competitive service, even in the 'last mile'. 'Ease of doing business' is also all-important. We have, therefore, introduced a system that generates an attractive offer, entirely online. This is for shipping to more than 30.000 combinations of the Port of Rotterdam and areas in Germany", he says.

Expansion
"We are investing heavily in the Rotterdam connection", adds Rotter. "Our clients' initial feedback has been positive. Because of this, I expect to be able to quickly add new German destinations to our Rotterdam network."
