Extra focus on Mini Piel de Sapo during Seminis melon days 2018

This week Seminis is organizing personalized melon days to the European key traders and key retailers to show the current assortment and the future assortment of the segments Galia, Cantaloupe, Mini Piel de Sapo and Orange Candy.

The visitors were enthusiastic on the newest introduction in Galia, Cantaloupe, Mini Piel de Sapo and the upcoming pipeline in this segment with new traits.

They appreciated that we show them the taste, aroma, shelf life information of the newest varieties in combination with the individual taste experience compared with the current portfolio and the main standard varieties. Besides that, a promising Galia pipeline with diseases resistance package, not only Powdery mildew but also Aphid resistance, was also presented and confirmed that taste, aroma standards were still part of the variety package.

There was special attention towards:
  • Sugarlup, this new cantaloupe performed very well in Almeria and in Murcia, and the retail feedback is excellent
  • SV5133MG, the Galia with excellent results not only from Spain but also from overseas
  • Verdasco and Robredo, both Galia varieties with IR Powdery mildew and Aphid resistance what will fit not only in Organic but also excellent in low residue concepts of the retailers
  • Orange Candy, the yellow type with orange flesh what will surprise consumers
  • Mini Piel de Sapo, a melon what is the perfect answer on the small melon trend

Not only melons, but also watermelons from Spain and Italy

Orange Candy was recognized by its internal orange color and yellow skin.
To explain our Global multi local approach we also showed several Italian varieties as a potential alternative in the early season

Nice example out of Italian portfolio, Giorillo, a yellow Italian type with characteristic skin.

Also this year there was the field lab during the event, this was visualized during the taste session showing the outcome of the measurements on taste and firmness.
