China: JD Fresh kicks off third session of Baise Mango Festival

JD Fresh and the Baise City government in Guangxi, jointly organized the 2018 "internet + Baise Mango Festival" on June 25th. JD also organized promotional activities. It is estimated that JD Fresh sold more than 2 million Baise mango's during the festival period. The sales volume increased by 200% in comparison with the same period last year. At the same time, both parties expressed their intention to cooperate in a direct supply from mango production areas. Baise City will become the newest landmark for JD Fresh farms. Cutting out one segment of the distribution chain, Baise mango's will be directly delivered to JD Fresh and sold in markets throughout China. This provides consumers with a more affordable mango choice.

Government data shows that approximately 14 million Baise mangoes were sold through such e-commerce platforms as JD and WeChat in 2017. The market value of these sales was approximately 1.1 billion yuan [164.3 million USD], or 28% of the mango market value. JD Fresh sold an estimated 2 million Baise mangoes during the festival period, which is three times the sales volume of the same period last year.
