Turkey: First figs of the season sold at 2.5 USD per kg at retail

The fig prices in Bilecik started at a very high level for the first harvest of the season with a price of 2.5 USD per kg.

The retailers in the market complain also about the price levels, noting that they could not make a lot of sales at these prices. The figs are coming from Tarsus district of Mersin. Customers are not showing a lot of interest in figs at these prices but the retailers expect the prices to go down drastically within a month to 0.75 USD per kg, at which level figs will definitely attract more consumers.
