During the World Cup, Uruguay is trying to score on and off the field. The country is conducting a series of activities to promote itself as a producer of reliable products and as a tourist and investment destination. Antonio Carambula, the head of the agency for the promotion of investments and exports of the country, Uruguay XXI, spoke about the activities they plan to conduct. According to him, Uruguay will try to position itself in Russia, not only in the World Cup.
The activities focus on the promotion of the country's gastronomy, culture, and sports history. Uruguay XXI will also deploy the #OtrosGoalsDeUruguay digital campaign, which aims to position the country as a logistic and technological center, as well as a benchmark in clean energy, institutional, macroeconomic, and life quality.

Exports
Uruguay XXI has posted an online report with information about Russia. The online report has general information about the country and an overview of it's imports. "Food products have had a shrinking trend between 2012 and 2017, as there has been an annual average fall of 7%, a behavior that goes hand in hand with the trend of total imports from the Russian Federation. Food as a whole accounted for 12.6% of the purchases made by the country in 2017. That year, food purchases totaled US $28.819 billion, i.e. 15.7% more than in 2016."
The country's main food suppliers in the year 2017 were Belarus, Brazil, China, Ecuador, and Belgium, in that order. Food imports were led by citrus and bananas imports in 2017, which accounted for 4.1% and 4% of all food imports, respectively.
That same year, Uruguay ranked 49th among Russia's food suppliers. "Uruguay's participation in the Russian Federation's imports has decreased between 2012 and 2017, although they had a certain degree of recovery last year. In 2017, food imports from Uruguay increased by 15.4% over 2016."
In 2017, citrus fruits accounted for 5.7% of total Uruguayan exports. "Currently, the Russian Federation ranks 14th in Uruguay's export destinations ranking."
World Cup 2030
Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay are candidates to host the 2030 World Cup. It would be held there one hundred years after being held in Uruguay and 52 years after being held in Argentina. However, there are several organizations that think it should be held in England.
In this World Cup, Uruguay is through to the next round as the winner of its group. The first match of the knockout phase will take place on June 30 against Portugal.
