Colombia's ICA and Argentina's Senasa stated that Colombia will be able to export its hass avocado to Argentina. This gives this product a boost to continue having one of the biggest potentials for foreign trade.
Producers interested in sending their product must comply with a work plan, which establishes a surveillance program for the Stenoma catenifer, Heilipus lauri, and Heilipus trisfasciatus boring pests.
The general manager of the ICA, Luis Humberto Martinez Lacouture, said that "Colombia had positioned its Hass avocados in several international markets thanks to the work they've carried out with national producers, who can now export to Argentina. This favors the economy of avocado producers in the Valle del Cauca, Tolima, Antioquia, and the coffee area, the main producers of this fruit."
The Colombian Hass avocado is the third Colombian product that has been admitted into Argentina in less than a month. The national pineapple and banana may also be exported to this destination.
Colombian avocado exports amount to US $35 million per year, and the export volume is increasing by more than 200% per year
In the last three years, the country has increased the area devoted to avocado, mainly of the Hass variety, thanks to the results of the Colombia Siembra Plan- which aims at increasing the area planted by one million hectares.
