Guatemala, which still hasn't recovered from the eruption of the Fuego Volcano, was shaken by a 5.6 magnitude earthquake on Monday at 02:32 (GMT), as reported by the US Geological Survey. The epicenter of the earthquake was located 49.2 kilometers southeast of the capital, Guatemala City, specifically in the department of Escuintla.
Even though the quake was felt in different parts of the country, authorities, which continue to control the situation, have not reported any personal or material damage. Guatemala has been severely affected by the recent volcanic eruption. The volcano is still active and has seven eruptions per hour.
CONRED, the Departmental Coordinator for Disaster Reduction, keeps the population well informed. There are conflicting emotions regarding the decision to suspend the search for missing persons in certain regions.
