Grilling is synonymous with holidays, but according to a recent study – the 4th of July leads with 63 percent of Americans selecting it as their choice for bringing out the grill. Memorial Day, Labor Day, Father’s Day, and Mother’s Day round out the top five. BBQ Bible Author Steven Raichlen predicted back in 2015 that “Side dishes would move center stage” and they have done just that. According to USA Today, potato salad makes the top 5 in foods to eat on the Independence Day holiday.
Side Delights® said it offers a patriotic option with Red White and Blue Potato Salad, in addition to other recipes that can accompany a 4th of July BBQ, even some right on the grill, such as Grilled Potato and Arugula Salad. Side Delights® features its Steamables™ potato line, which the company says speeds up the time to create delicious salads. Steamables cooks up in the microwave in minutes, reducing the time it takes to boil potatoes for a salad. Side Delights said one of the benefits is that microwave cooking doesn’t heat up an already warm kitchen in the summer as cooking in the oven or on the stove top does.
"While shoppers head to their favorite stores to select the perfect items for the holiday BBQ, they’re also looking for foods that save time,” said Kathleen Triou, President and CEO of Fresh Solutions Network. Value-added vegetables (such as pre-cut, pre-seasoned, side dishes) are in the top five produce items shoppers purchase around the holiday, because of the convenience they offer without sacrificing taste or quality.
