Argentina: Tucuman will be able to export lemons to Colombia

The companies that produce and market lemons in Tucumán will have access to the Colombian market, after the Agricultural Institute of that country (ICA) recently published the phytosanitary requirements for the import of citrus fruit from Argentina.

The Minister of Productive Development, Luis Fernandez, celebrated the news and said that this increased the province's citrus industry's business opportunities. He also spoke about the value that the air connectivity between Tucuman and the Latin American countries had for the productive sector.

What are the market destinations for the citrus from Tucuman?
In the last few years, Tucuman's citrus production was able to access a range of markets. The efforts of the provincial government and the private sector consolidated markets, such as Mexico, the United States, Brazil, Europe, and Japan. They are also holding talks to access other markets, such as China and countries of Southwest Asia.

"It is always good to have open markets. It doesn't necessarily imply that we'll begin exports immediately or that they are attractive markets with higher prices than other places in the world. Now, the Colombian market is open to our products, and I'm sure that the industry from Tucuman will start exporting its products there quickly, if we can get better prices there. It is a new, interesting market that joins other markets that are already open to our products," said the Minister.

Airlift and logistics
The province's cargo transportation logistics improved with the development of the new Benjamin Matienzo Airport airstrip.

Fernandez said: "Air connectivity and logistics are essential for all products, not just lemon. That is what we the Government of Tucuman is working on. Governor Juan Luis Manzur is working to open markets and increase the province's connectivity. Being able to place all the variety of products that Tucuman exports abroad is very important because there are business opportunities everywhere."
