This year, the cultivation area of onions in Gansu Province is expected to be 240,000 mu. Compared to last year, the cultivation area reduced about 30.000 mu, dropping by about 11%. It is expected that the total production volume will be around 1.44 million tons. As calculated, in the first half of the year, the onion market is running low. There are uncertain factors affecting the price and sales in the market. Overall, the price and sales volume will fluctuate a bit, going up at the beginning and going down later. Some pressure still exists in the export.
In order to maintain and actively explore the market and make sure the onion production season is running smoothly, the administrative and marketing office of Gansu agricultural products has already had a discussion with more than 20 onion companies and growers. They promote onions in different areas and set the goals for the year. These are - to export 300 thousand tons to Japan and Korea, 200 thousand tons to Southeast Asia, and to keep around 800 thousand tons for the domestic Chinese market.
