L'Orto di Eleonora introduces Corallo melons

It appears that traditional melon varieties such as Galia and Cantaloupe are losing popularity on a few markets. However, this means there may be a gap for other types such as Honeydew or Piel de Sapo.

Agricola Campidanese has always done well on the market with its melon and watermelon segment and has recently introduced a new product.

Corallo melons
L'Orto di Eleonora sales manager Marco Lotta (in the photo above), explained that the company is "always active when it comes to finding new varieties. Corallo melons are named after their orange flesh, reminiscent of the coral found at the bottom of the Sardinian sea."

Corallo are genetically a Piel de Sapo variety with excellent performances: flavour is stable, with an excellent shelf-life and a very high storage level.

"This variety combines the flavours of Piel de Sapo and Chanterais melons. Its taste is extremely captivating, sweet (with a Brix level of 16) and its flesh is firm."

The product is currently being tested and there should be weekly harvests until September.

Corallo melons will be officially introduced on the market in 2019.
