Smooth peach and nectarine sales in Seville

"Spain: "We needed a year like this, commercially speaking"

"Although the weather in Seville has not been favourable for stone fruit, we have had more success than other producing areas in Spain, where they have suffered more from the cold, abundant rainfall and hail," says Sébastien Adnot, of Sat Sintesis, known for its Primor brand. At the moment, the Sevillian company is harvesting and shipping yellow-fleshed nectarines, as well as white and yellow-fleshed peaches, which they will continue to market for at least three more weeks.

Depending on the varieties, the harvest in Seville started with a delay of between seven and ten days, and with more losses than last year. "A greater selection needs to be made this year and therefore, there is less fruit available. On top of that, other producing areas, such as Murcia and Badajoz, are even more affected than us, so we are having a campaign with very smooth sales and more stable prices. It seems that this trend will continue in the coming weeks, since Catalonia and Aragon will also arrive with less fruit and with a surprising delay," explains Sébastien.

According to the exporter, "we needed a year like this, commercially speaking. We still have to wait and see whether the good prices will compensate for the lack of kilos, and whether they will be profitable for the producers."

Under the brand name Sweet X-PERIENCE, Sat Síntesis ships its early peach and nectarine varieties Low Shilling to supermarkets in Europe, in countries such as Italy, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, the Nordic countries and the United Kingdom, with some occasional air shipments to South East Asian destinations, such as Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. "We are unable to export large volumes by sea, because extra early fruit does not resist such long trips."
