China: Air-conditioned preservation technology helps fruit industry

China is a large country in fruit production, but not a strong country. Compared to developed countries, China is relatively weak in post-harvest management, and the preservation environment during storage and transport. The damage rate for fresh fruit is 30%.

Air-conditioned preservation technology has emerged in the Chinese fruit industry in recent years. This technology extends the time fruit and vegetables can be stored and guarantees that fruit and vegetables maintain their flavor. It also improves fruit product quality and value, which leads to increased income in the fruit industry.

Sichuan Sunshine Flavor Fruit Co., Ltd. established the Pujiang Fruit Modern Agricultural Distribution Center. It is currently the largest domestic trade platform specialized in fruit from production areas. The center occupies a surface area of around 23 hectares. The overall investment reached 450 million yuan [70.13 million USD]. The project involves 84 air-conditioned preservation halls, with a year-round refrigerated, air-conditioned storage capacity of more than 90 thousand tons of fruit. The establishment of this center further encourages the healthy development of the kiwi fruit and orange industries in Pujiang.
