‘Sweet potatoes everywhere’

Australia: Hume Highway closed after crash

The northbound lanes of Hume Highway have been closed at Benalla following a truck roll-over that spilled sweet potatoes everywhere. Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash at midday on Friday.

A southbound truck had left the road and travelled into the northbound lanes, hitting a car and tipping over. The truck driver was airlifted to Melbourne with non-life threatening injuries and the driver of the car was taken to Wangaratta hospital.

Sergeant Colin Anderson said the crash has sparked a large clean-up operation. “There are sweet potatoes everywhere,” he said. “It’s a mess.”
