Camposol has a higher Q1 turnover thanks to blueberries

Camposol sold more blueberries at a higher average price. They also sold more shrimp at a stable price. This resulted in a higher turnover for the company in the first quarter of the financial year. The results for avocados were disappointing when compared to last year. It should, however, be noted that the season for fresh avocados had not yet started in the first quarter. Camposol only marketed the frozen variety.

Camposol announced their first quarter figures for the book year. Their turnover came to $82,2 million. A year ago, this was $58,2 million. This equates to an increase of 41,3%. This growth was primarily thanks to the high volume, and the higher prices, of blueberries. This Peruvian company brought 5 362 tonnes of blueberries to market. This is a substantial increase of 61,5% in relation to the previous year's 3 321 tonnes. On average, these berries brought in $7,63 per kg. This is almost EUR2 more than in the first quarter of 2017. Then, the average price was EUR5,90 per kg. This amounts to an increase of 29,4%. The increased blueberry volumes are mainly due to the increased number of hectares that entered into production as compared to the first quarter of 2017.

The avocado market was disappointing when compared to the first quarter of 2017. More avocados were sold - 129 tonnes this year, compared to 111 tonnes last year. The average price was, however, a euro lower. This year, the price stood at $2,02 per kg, a year earlier it still EUR3,03 per kg. The 16,2% increase in volume could not compensate for the negative price development of -33,4%. In the first quarter, only frozen avocados were sold. Camposol's fresh avocado seasons runs from April to September.

The volume in the seafood category rose to 2 929 tonnes. In 2017 it was 2 695 tonnes. Prices remained stable, which resulted in higher revenues. Total gross profit increased from $12,2 million to $22,4 million. The EBITDA came to $19 million while it was $9,8 million in 2017.

Camposol is optimistic about long-term market developments. The consumption of exotic fruit and vegetables remains favourable. The use of avocados, blueberries, and mandarins in the US is still following a stable growth trajectory. In other markets, consumption of these products is also following a positive growth pattern. These are in markets other than Europe and China.
